Green Cover in India
All of us dream of Green , clean and pollution free India. Today, the reduction of resources & Rising the pollution levels with Destructive changes of climate has become a serious topic and now everyone is discussing the Green Earth. But what exactly is the meaning of Word green? When we think deeper into the meaning of green, we will understand Green is all about loving and caring for all to whom we share our world. And we need to recognize that respecting our earth and all life forms is the foundation of any safe community and that love for all is the most important. Green Environment relates to the concerns for environmental conservation and improved health of the environment. Environment plays an important role in healthy living and the existence of life on planet earth. Earth is a home for different living species and we all are dependent on the environment for food, air, water, and other needs. Therefore, it is important for every individual to save and protect our environment.
Green India Mission
Green India recognizes the influences and potential that the forests and other natural ecosystems have on climate adaptation and food, water, environmental and livelihood security of tribal and forest dwellers especially.
The Green India Mission aimed to protect, restore, and enhance India’s green cover in response to climate change. The main target behind this mission of Increasing forest cover and improving forest cover is to plant more trees.
The Goals of GIM (Green India Mission) are
To Increase Forest / Trees Covers to the extent 5mha and Improve the quality of forest and trees covers another 5mha. Improvement in quality of forest cover and ecosystem services of forests/non forests including Moderately dense, open forests, degraded grasslands and wetlands
Eco-restoration/ afforestation of scrub, shifting cultivation areas, cold deserts,mangroves,Ranives and abdomed mining areas
Improvement in forest and tree cover in urban and peri urban lands

The environment plays an important role in the existence of life on the planet earth. The word Environment is derived from the French word “Environ” which means “surrounding.” An ecosystem refers to all the living and the non-living things present in the environment and it is a foundation of the Biosphere, which determines the health of the entire planet earth. Now it is high time to go green. Many country are started a mission or campaign towards Go green and save Earth
Green Cover Rises In India
As per the India State of forest report 2021 Data India’s green cover has touched nearly 1/4th of its geographical area with forests and trees outside recorded forest areas. All Put together recording an increase of 0.3% in 2021 as compared to the previous Assessment year 2019.
Total Green (Forests and trees) covered has now reached 24.6% of geographical area, which includes Forest 21.7% of area. However overall forest has recorded an increase of 0.2% while trees increased by 0.5% in the past 2 years. According to the Isfr 2021 Reports Shows Top 5 States/UTs which have more than 75% forest cover areas are Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Andaman & Nicobar Island, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. While 12 other States/UTs which have forests cover between 33% and 75% are Manipur,Nagaland, Tripura, Goa, Kerala, Sikkim, Uttrakhand, Chhattisgarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Assam & Odisha.
The top 3 states which are showing an increase in forest cover are Andhra Pradesh 647 Sq Km, Telangana 632 Sq Km, and Odisha 537 Sq Km. According to Area wise, Madhya Pradesh has the largest forest cover in india.
However the forest cover is mainly observed by the categories of canopy density of more than 10% of the forest land, Very Dense Forest(VDF) with 70% density of the forest land and Open Forest(OF) with more than 10% but less than 40% density of the forest land. These categories have been classified and mapped.

Tropical Research and Development Center (TRDC)- The TRDC – Paryavaran project launched in some districts of Karnataka addresses the adversities of environmental degradation and climate change. The project also aims at conservation and betterment of local flora and fauna, revitalization of water resources, and involving the younger generation and farmers in their efforts to help in the preservation of natural resources.
Sankalp Taru Foundation: This environmental NGO is a classic example of how digital channels can be used in the protection and conservation of the environment. Sankalp Taru is an e-NGO, which aims at promoting tree plantation across the country. The NGO involves all the aspects of environmental protection – rural development, cleaner schools, tree plantation in cities and community-based land protection. Their principal aim is to create a greener, cleaner and healthier environment so that our future generations get a better and greener planet with even richer bio-diversity and abundant natural resources.
